What is a fraud alert?
A fraud alert will make it harder for someone to open a new credit account in your name. It alerts creditors so they will take extra caution verifying your identity if a fraudster tries to use your information. A fraud alert lasts one year but can be renewed for longer.
What is a credit freeze?
A credit freeze restricts access to your credit report, which means you or others will not be able to open a new credit account while the freeze is in place. You can temporarily lift the freeze if you need to apply for new credit. The credit freeze lasts until you remove it.
Can I do an extended fraud alert?
An extended fraud alert is available to people who have had their identity stolen.
