How to Open a Youth Savings Account

Teaching kids how to save money is one of the best lessons you can give them—and we’re here to make it fun, easy, and rewarding! At Elevate Credit Union, our Dollar Dog Youth Savings Accounts are specially designed to help young savers learn smart money habits from an early age.

Whether your child is ready to stash their birthday money, allowance, or first lemonade stand earnings, here’s everything you need to know about opening a Dollar Dog account.

Step 1: Visit One of Our Branches

To open a Dollar Dog account, simply stop by your nearest Elevate Credit Union branch during business hours. We love welcoming new members to the pack, and our team is here to make the process quick and easy.

Pro tip: Bring your child along! It’s a great hands-on learning opportunity—and they’ll get some fun surprises, too.

Step 2: Bring the Right Documents

To open a youth savings account, you’ll need to bring a few things with you:

✔️ Your child’s Social Security number
✔️ A valid government-issued photo ID (for the adult joint owner)
✔️ The child’s birth certificate or another form of ID
✔️ $25 to open the account – this represents your child’s share in the credit union, officially making them a member!

A parent or legal guardian must be listed as a joint owner on the account, which helps keep things secure and easy to manage as your child learns to save.

Step 3: Make the First Deposit and Join the Club!

Once the account is open and the $25 share is deposited, your child is officially part of the Dollar Dog Kids Club - where saving money comes with monthly rewards and fun prizes!

Here’s what makes it exciting:

New Account Welcome Prizes – Your child gets a special gift when they open their account.
Monthly Deposit Rewards – Each month, when they come into a branch and deposit $5 or more, they get a special prize!

Why Start Saving Young?

Opening a youth savings account is more than just depositing dollars—it’s about helping your child build confidence, responsibility, and a healthy relationship with money. By giving them a space to save and watch their balance grow, you’re setting them up for a lifetime of smart financial choices.

Plus, with the Dollar Dog Club’s prizes and personal attention, your child gets excited about saving—and that’s a win for everyone.
