12 Things You Need To Do Before Your Summer Vacation
Summer is the perfect time for a vacation. It is nice to get away for a few days or weeks. But before you go, there are 12 things you must do before your summer vacation is checked off. This list will give you a little relief when you are done.
1. Don't let your Visa or Debit Card get declined
Give us a call at 435.723.3437 before you set off on your vacation. Let us know your vacation destination so we know how to honor any card transactions you make while in another state. If you’re traveling overseas, ask us about foreign transaction fees and best practices for using cash and cards. We’ll help you make the best decisions for managing your money while away. Don't forget to ask about the Travel Visa to protect your private account and give you a better way to pay for items on your vacation.
2. Check your auto insurance plan for coverage
If you plan on renting a car, check with your auto insurance provider to find out if rental cars are covered in your policy. This can help save you money on the extra coverage if it is unnecessary.
3. Pay all your bills
Before heading out, ensure all of your monthly bills are paid. You don’t want to be busy paying bills during your vacation, risk getting late fees, or damage your credit.
4. Automate your email
Set up an automatic email response at work that lets people know you’re out of the office. Forward your emails to a co-worker who can help them if you will be away for an extended period.
5. Put your mail on hold
If you are gone for a while, ask the USPS to hold your mail at the post office until your return. You can do this online! If you are gone briefly, ask a friend or neighbor to pick up your mail.
6. Unplug your electronics
Pull the plug on all small appliances and electronics before you leave to prevent vampire energy leakage.
7. Clean your home
Before your departure, thoroughly clean your house so a spotless, clean-smelling house will greet you upon your return. You’ll also help avoid an invasion by ants or other critters.
8. Let your mobile service provider know about your travel plans
If you’re traveling abroad, check with your cellphone company about possible overseas service plans that allow you to use your smartphone for calls, texts, and internet access when on vacation.
9. Shut your main water supply
If you are gone for an extended period, avoid coming home to a flood by turning off your water supply before leaving. Another option would be to have a neighbor or friend check on your home, sprinklers, animals, and house plants.
10. Adjust your thermostats
If you have the AC blasting throughout the summer, remember to adjust your thermostat before leaving. Turning it off completely is unwise, as you’ll want some air to circulate to keep humidity under control and avoid mold growth. Also, set your water heater to vacation mode/setting.
11. Invest in a timer
Keep the prowlers out by setting your lights on and off in different rooms and at different times throughout your vacation.
12. Confirm your reservations
Confirming your flight, hotel room, car rental, and attractions is a good idea before setting out on your trip.
Check, check, double-check. The 12 things you need to do before your summer vacation are done. And you are ready to go. Have fun, be safe, and here's hoping you have the vacation of a lifetime from all of us here at Elevate Credit Union!
